What is the Higg Index

Measuring What
Matters

The Higg Index is a suite of tools developed by the Sustainable Apparel Coalition (SAC) — the world's leading alliance for sustainable production in the apparel, footwear, and home textiles industries.

Unlike simple certifications, the Higg Index provides a standardised, science-based measurement system. It quantifies environmental impact across energy, water, greenhouse gas emissions, and chemical use — and assesses social performance including labour conditions, health, and safety.

The result is credible, comparable data that enables buyers to make genuinely informed sourcing decisions — and that pushes manufacturers to go beyond compliance into continuous, measurable improvement.

The Measurement Areas

What the Higg Index
Measures

01
Energy & GHG

Facility energy consumption, fuel sources, and greenhouse gas emissions are quantified and benchmarked. This drives investment in renewables and efficiency improvements — reflected in our 5KW solar installation.

02
Water Use

Water intake, consumption, and discharge quality are tracked across all production processes. The Higg framework pushes facilities to reduce consumption and prevent water pollution in their local environment.

03
Waste & Chemicals

Solid waste generation, chemical management, and hazardous substance handling are assessed. Facilities must demonstrate responsible disposal and substitution of harmful chemicals where possible.

04
Labour & Social

The Facility Social & Labour Module (FSLM) covers employment conditions, wages, working hours, worker voice, and health and safety — giving buyers a complete picture of social performance alongside environmental data.

Our Implementation

How Deepak Carpets
Uses It

Facility Module (Higg FEM)

We complete the Higg Facility Environmental Module annually, self-assessing our performance across energy, water, emissions, waste, and chemical use. Data is verified by a third party to ensure accuracy and credibility.

Sharing Data with Buyers

Our Higg scores are sharable directly with brands and buyers who request them through the SAC platform. This replaces vague claims with standardised, independently verified performance data — the kind of transparency that serious buyers now expect.

Driving Real Improvements

The Higg process exposes where our footprint is highest and where investment will have the most impact. Our solar plant, PVC greenhouse, and waste reduction efforts are all informed by the areas the Higg framework highlighted as priorities.

Year-on-Year Benchmarking

Because Higg data is collected annually, we can track our trajectory over time — not just claim good intentions, but demonstrate actual progress. Our scores go up as our practices improve. That accountability is built into the system.
