Fair Wages & Dignified Work: Our Commitment to Artisan Livelihoods

Deepak Carpets artisans at work in a fair and ethical manufacturing environment

Fair compensation and reasonable working hours are the bedrock of ethical manufacturing. At Deepak Carpets, we believe that artisans who pour their skill and dedication into every knot deserve more than minimum compliance — they deserve respect, transparency, and a livelihood that sustains their families and futures. This article details our policies on wages, benefits, and working hours.

Fair & Transparent Wages

Deepak Carpets is committed to paying wages that meet or exceed the minimum wage requirements set by the Government of India for the relevant state and sector. Our wage framework includes:

  • Above Minimum Wage: Base pay for all workers meets or exceeds statutory minimum wage levels for the handloom and handicraft sector in Uttar Pradesh.
  • Timely Payment: Wages are paid regularly and on time, through documented payment methods that provide workers with clear records.
  • No Unlawful Deductions: No deductions are made from wages as a disciplinary measure. All lawful deductions (such as statutory contributions) are transparently communicated.
  • Piece-Rate Transparency: For artisans compensated on a piece-rate basis, rates are clearly defined and communicated before work begins, ensuring no ambiguity.

Benefits & Social Security

Beyond base wages, Deepak Carpets provides additional benefits to support worker welfare:

  • Provident Fund (PF) contributions as mandated by law
  • Employee State Insurance (ESI) coverage for eligible workers
  • Paid leave including annual leave, sick leave, and festival holidays
  • Maternity benefits in accordance with the Maternity Benefit Act
  • Gratuity payments for long-serving employees

Regulated Working Hours

Deepak Carpets strictly adheres to regulated working hours to protect worker health and work-life balance:

  • Standard Hours: Regular working hours do not exceed 8 hours per day and 48 hours per week, in compliance with the Factories Act and applicable labour legislation.
  • Overtime Policy: Overtime is voluntary, compensated at premium rates as prescribed by law, and capped to prevent worker exhaustion.
  • Rest Days: Workers are entitled to at least one full rest day per week.
  • Break Periods: Adequate break periods are provided during working hours for rest and meals.

No Exploitation, No Exceptions

We firmly prohibit any form of wage theft, forced overtime, or exploitative labour arrangements. Our commitment extends to every tier of our supply chain — subcontracted weaving units and home-based artisans are held to the same standards through regular monitoring and contractual obligations.

Worker Voice & Grievance Resolution

Workers who believe their wages or working hours have been unfairly managed have access to a clear grievance mechanism. Complaints are handled confidentially, investigated promptly, and resolved through the company's certified Standing Orders.

Commitment to Continuous Improvement

As authorised by Anup Savita, Partner, Deepak Carpets regularly reviews its wage structures and working-hour policies to ensure alignment with evolving labour laws, industry benchmarks, and the real cost of living in the Bhadohi region.

We believe that fair wages are not a cost — they are an investment in the skill, loyalty, and dignity that make Deepak Carpets products exceptional.
