Construction Requirements
Commercial traffic demands density. In tufted goods that means higher stitch rates and heavier pile weights than residential equivalents; loop pile or low, dense cut pile outperforms plush heights that crush under constant footfall. Backings matter equally: contract rugs need dimensional stability so they lie flat for years, which is why latexing and secondary backing quality deserve as much scrutiny as the face fibre.
Fibre Choices That Hold Up
Wool remains the contract benchmark — resilient, naturally soil-hiding, self-extinguishing and repairable. Wool-rich blends add specific properties where needed. For outdoor or wet areas, solution-dyed synthetics such as PET earn their place. Viscose, beautiful in low-traffic residential settings, does not belong in commercial circulation zones — a distinction a candid manufacturer will volunteer.
