10 Questions to Ask Before Choosing a Wholesale Rug Supplier

Piles of handmade rugs ready for wholesale

Choosing a wholesale rug supplier is a decision you live with for years — through reorders, quality claims, delayed containers and sudden bestsellers that need scaling. The right questions asked early prevent most of the pain. Here are the ten we believe every buyer should put to a prospective supplier, and the answers that matter.

Production and Quality

1. Do you manufacture in-house or subcontract? In-house control of weaving and finishing is the single strongest predictor of consistency. 2. Can we visit or audit the facility? Any hesitation is a red flag. 3. What happens at quality control? Look for inspection at multiple stages — after weaving, after washing, before packing — not a single final glance. 4. How do you hold colour consistency across reorders? The answer should involve physical colour standards and in-house dyeing.

Commercial Terms

5. What are your minimums per design and size? Flexibility here reveals how the supplier treats mid-sized buyers. 6. What are standard lead times — and what is your on-time record? Ask for references. 7. How are claims handled? A serious exporter has a written process for shortages, damage and defects.

Compliance and Ethics

8. Which audits and certifications do you hold? Sedex membership, Higg Index assessment and similar third-party frameworks show the supplier expects scrutiny. 9. Can you provide fibre content and testing documentation? Your retail customers will ask you; your supplier must answer. 10. Who actually weaves the rugs, and under what conditions? The best suppliers answer proudly and specifically.

Judging the Answers

Notice not just the content but the speed and directness of the replies. A manufacturer that controls its production answers from knowledge; a middleman relays questions and waits. Deepak Carpets answers all ten in one sentence: everything happens in our own Bhadohi facility, audited under Sedex, benchmarked on Higg, since 1979. Put us to the test.
